Railmotors & Steam!

Join us on Saturday January 15, 2022 for a special steam-up with C16 No.106 to welcome two very special railmotors to DownsSteam Toowoomba.

Open to the public for the first time, come take a look inside the Commissioner for Railways and CEO's private railmotors, complete with their own lounge & boardroom! These historically significant railmotors were previously overhauled to be the last dedicated network Inspection Railmotors for the Commissioner for Railways, the Queensland Rail CEO and other senior managers. After 22 years operating in this role with both QR and then Aurizon, RM2032 & RM2004 have retired from commercial service & been purchased by DownsSteam to join our fleet of heritage rollingstock.

Toowooomba's very own built & restored steam locomotive, C16 No. 106 the “Pride of Toowoomba” will also be steamed up early for visitors to get up close to a 'living', 'breathing' mystery of steam and iron. Built at the Toowoomba Foundry - Southern Cross Works in 1914. 106 years since first entering service with Queensland Rail having steamed over 1.3 million miles all around Queensland over her career, 106 is nearly ready to ride the rails across the Darling Downs once again.

Don't miss this special event! Gates open from 9am to 3pm. Morning tea, Barista Coffee & Light lunch available until 1:30pm. Scones, jam and cream, slices & profiteroles are on the menu for morning tea with an all day sausage sizzle & toasted sandwiches available for lunch.

Entry: $5 donation per adult, kids are free (cash at the gate or EFTPOS at the Station Shop). Additional donations are welcomed & appreciated.

As a non-profit volunteer run non-essential museum & hospitality venue operating on Queensland Rail property we are required by the Queensland Government - "Public Health and Social Measures linked to vaccination status Direction" to comply with the visitor and staff obligations for proof of vaccination status for entry requirements.
